About EDF R&D

The Research and Development branch of EDF counts approximately 2000 researchers and 9 research centers (the EDF Labs) located in Europe, Asia, and the United States; with an annual budget of over 500 millions euros.

Research in nuclear thermal-hydraulics has been carried out for several decades by EDF R&D, particularly at EDF Lab Chatou in the Fluid Dynamics, Energy and Environment (MFEE) Department, with a joint approach coupling experimental program and the development of dedicated simulation software : THYC (acting at the component scale) and the CFD software code_saturne and neptune_cfd.

As an open-source software, code_saturne can be freely downloaded on its official website (www.code-saturne.org). neptune_cfd is the multiphase extension of code_saturne, jointly developed by EDF, CEA, IRSN and FRAMATOME in the framework of the french NEPTUNE project.
